Chapter 67

A chilling silence fell.
The Lumene students looked at Leo with puzzled expressions, while the Seiren students glared at him with stiff faces.
âWrong⌠interpretation? What do you mean by that, Student Leo Plov?â
Herdium asked with a smiling face.
But in his eyes lingered a cold gleam.
Seeing that, Leo scratched his cheek and said,
âThat spell wonât activate.â
âOf course. This is an incomplete spellâit canât activate in the first place.â
âHuh?â
Leo was taken aback.
And then he realized the looks the Seiren studentsâincluding Herdiumâwere giving him werenât kind.
âWhat would a kid whose specialties are Aura and Summoning even know about magic?â
Lunia, too, stared at Leo with an incredulous face.
âHa! Acting all high and mighty just because you can use something resembling Star Sorcery! This spell is the legacy of the Poet that no one could interpret! Countless elven mages worked to restore it into this current formâhow dare you call it wrong after looking at it?â
The elf boy whom Leo had beaten before snapped and shouted.
âAh⌠so this was a lost spell?â
Leo realized his mistake and made an awkward expression.
Meanwhile, Lunia looked startled by the boyâs words.
âWait? Magic? But Leo clearly used Aura and Spiritual Power?â
âIt seems Student Leo has some knowledge of Star Sorcery. Interesting. I wonder how Star Sorcery appears through the eyes of a human.â
Herdium extended a piece of chalk with his cold voice.
âIf our elvesâ interpretation is wrong, will you show us yours?â
âTch. Looks like I canât avoid this.â
It hadnât crossed his mind that this would be a basic spell of Star Sorcery that still remained uninterpreted.
âWell⌠I guess it makes sense. This spell was created after Luna established a magic system out of Star Sorcery.â
The Star Sorcery used by elves in this era was different at its root from what Luna had wielded.
That was only natural, since the one who had truly inherited the full essence of Star Sorcery had not been the elves, but Kyle.
âI died before I could pass that essence on to other elves.â
It was no exaggeration to say that the authentic essence of Star Sorcery had been cut off with Kyle.
The Star Sorcery elves currently used was nothing more than a copy reconstructed from the formulas VelkiaâLunaâs discipleâremembered, along with the grimoires Luna left behind.
âEven so, being able to reconstruct this much out of something incomplete is impressive.â
Given that, it wasnât strange that they wouldnât know a spell considered âbasicâ from Luna or Kyleâs perspective.
For the elves, it was a completely lost spell.
Chastising himself for the blunder, Leo stood and walked to the chalkboard.
The Lumene students who saw that nearly fainted.
âUgh! Leo-oppa, why would you do that!â
âIf the gradeâs representative gets humiliated, itâll be a disaster!â
âAck! Professor Harridâs eyes are shooting lasers!â
Even Harrid, watching from behind, was glaring at Leo with a terrifying look.
That was how outrageous Leoâs action was.
Class 5 students held their heads in agony, while the Seiren students stared at Leo as if to say, Letâs see how good you really are.
Herdium folded his arms, stepped back, and watched as Leo began his interpretation.
The faint sound of chalk filled the room.
Takâ!
Leo began filling in the missing parts of the broken formula.
Naturally, in that process, he used formulas of Star Sorcery that the elves no longer knew.
âWhat kind of interpretation is that?â
âIt looks like Star Sorcery, but Iâve never seen that formula before.â
âThatâs a totally weird interpretation, isnât it?â
The Seiren students looked puzzled at Leoâs work.
Even Luniaârenowned for her magical prowessâwore a bewildered expression.
âDoes such a formula even exist?â
Not one Seiren student understood how important the formulas Leo was writing on the board really were.
Instead, their heads were spinning at the increasingly complex formulas.
Only one personâHerdiumâwas trembling with awe as he stared at the board.
Takâ!
At last, Leo set down the chalk and stepped back.
âIâm done.â
Harrid, arms folded, stared intently at Leo.
He didnât know enough about Star Sorcery to evaluate Leoâs formula.
Taking his eyes off Leo, Harrid looked sideways.
And then he was surprised by what he saw in Herdiumâs face.
Herdiumâs body was trembling.
This spell of the Poet, countless elven mages had attempted to interpret it for thousands of years and failed.
It had been deemed incomplete.
But Herdium, who had devoted his life to researching it, understood Leoâs formula perfectly.
So he knew.
âThe spell has been fully unraveled!â

âStudent Leo Plov. How on earth did you do it?â
Herdium immediately dragged Leo and Harrid into a small room adjoining the Grand Banquet Hall and questioned him.
Harrid, too, was staring at Leo in shock.
Under their gaze, Leo pondered briefly what he should say.
âThe best choice is to just say I interpreted it normally.â
He could hardly say things like Iâm Kyle, or I learned magic directly from Luna. Even if he did, no one would believe him, and he shouldnât say such things anyway.
âIâve always had a strong interest in Star Sorcery, so Iâve studied it deeply. That particular spellâIâve researched it for a long time.â
âThatâs not a spell you could interpret just because youâre interested in Star Sorcery.â
Herdium adjusted his glasses and pressed sharply.
It was Harrid who answered instead.
âLeo Plov isnât just a student with some knowledge of Star Sorcery.â
âThen what is he?â
âThis student is an actual user of Star Sorcery.â
Herdiumâs face showed astonishment at Harridâs words.
âStar Sorcery? A human? Ah, no, itâs not that other races canât use it, but⌠at such a young age?â
Star Sorcery was a system of magic created by Luna.
Over time, it had been adapted specifically for elves, so compared to other magic systems, it was particularly difficult for other races to wield.
Even if one could use it, a high level of magical proficiency was required, making it difficult to use at a young age, and even then its power was halved.
âBut this boyâat just fifteen, in a human bodyâuses Star Sorcery?â
âBut even if he is a user of Star Sorcery, that doesnât explain how he could interpret this⌠Can you explain the process?â
At Herdiumâs question, Leo began writing out the interpretation process on paper.
As Herdium watched, his eyes filled more and more with shock.
âIf the Poet herself had interpreted it, wouldnât it look just like this?â
That was how naturalâand perfectâLeoâs interpretation was.
When Leo finally finished, Herdium took the paper and trembled.
âLeo Plov⌠what exactly is this spell? Have you ever used it before?â
âI havenât personally used it, butâŚâ
Leo scratched his cheek and said,
âItâs a spell that makes flowers bloom.â
âFlowers?â
Harrid and Herdium both looked puzzled.
âYes.â
âA-astonishing. To think that this spell, from which countless other elemental spells derived, was simply a spell to bloom flowers.â
Stunned by the Poetâs whimsicalness, Herdium muttered in disbelief.
Leo then demonstrated the magic.
A gentle light bloomed in his palm, and before long, a single flower blossomed in his hand.
âIt isnât merely a spell to make flowers bloom. During the Age of Calamity, flowers were nearly extinct.â
Herdium gazed at the flower in Leoâs hand.
âTo make a flower bloom requires fire, wind, water, earth⌠and light.â
Leo smiled faintly at the flower in his palm.
âPerhaps, to the Poet of the Star, flowers meant something truly special.â
"Look, Kyle! I finally perfected the spell to make flowers bloom!"
"What kind of useless spell is that?"
"Why? Flowers are pretty, arenât they? Someday, I want to bring back a world full of flowers. Donât you want to learn it too?"
"No thanks."
Looking at the flower in his hand, Leo recalled the past.
He had learned it half-forced by Luna, but never once had a reason to use it.
âAnd now I use it in this life.â
Lunaâs most beloved and cherished spell.
A basic spell, yet imbued with the very essence of all the magic she had built upâthis spell to bloom flowers.
âIf the elves knew that Luna created Star Sorcery for the sake of perfecting this spell⌠what kind of faces would they make?â
As he recalled Lunaâs radiant smile, Leo was lost in memories.
âIndeed! Perhaps this spell contains Lunaâs profound love for nature.â
âNo, she just liked flowers, thatâs all.â
Watching Herdium interpret it however he pleased, Leo shook his head.
âIn any case, Student Leo, I should speak with Professor Harrid privately. Please spend the time in self-study like the other students.â
âYes.â
âWhew, got through that without trouble.â
Relieved inside, Leo left the room.
âOur student behaved rudely. I apologize.â
âNot at all, Professor Harrid! In fact, we should be thanking you! To think that the spell we thought incomplete from the Poet was actually a complete spell! This is a great discovery!â
Seeing Herdiumâs pure delight, Harrid gave a bitter smile.
âSo, this might be a strange question, butâŚâ
ââŚ?â
âDoes Student Leo Plov perhaps have elven blood among his ancestors?â
âIn Lumene, we donât really concern ourselves with who our ancestors were, so I canât say.â
âI see.â
âWhy do you ask?â
âWell⌠given that Leo Plov is Lumeneâs grade representative, it may be presumptuous of me to say this, butâŚâ
ââŚ?â
âWould you consider transferring Student Leo Plov to our academy?â
ââŚâŚâ
At that unprecedented transfer proposal, Harrid could only stare at Herdium with a dumbfounded face.
