Chapter 581

Eliza stayed up all night with Carl, gathering as much information as she could about the world of Lumene that she had entered.
It was late at night, and although she couldnât move from the room, she was able to gather more information than expected.
âFirst of all, it was fortunate that Claric Jessianâwhom Carl Thomas possessedâwas the student council president.â
Claricâs room was filled with documents essential to the student council president.
Through those documents, they were able to get a general grasp of the events currently occurring within Lumene.
âStart with Rodia, the Dawn Dragon, followed by Seiren, the Comet Mage, Azonia the Grand Warrior, and even the Unyielding DamienâŚâŚ.â
Luminaries hailed as successors to the Great Heroes were now gathered in Lumene.
âIf something big enough to bring together the Heroes of Dawn is happening, it should definitely be in the records. But as far as I know, there was never a time when all of them gathered in Lumene.â
âHuh? Really?â
âYou. Isn't knowing the history of your own school just basic sense?â
âKind of strange hearing that honor-student talk from you.â
âHmph. Itâs basic. You know all sorts of useless stuff but you're clueless about this?â
âWell, yeah.â Carl shrugged.
âAnyway, after the Return of Calamity ended, it was extremely rare for the Heroes of Dawn to gather in one place.â
Eliza fell into thought.
âFor such an important event to have happened in Lumene Academy and yet left no trace in history⌠that must mean the reason itself is the key to clearing the Heroâs World.â
âExactly.â
Eliza gave a satisfied smile.
Then, sitting on the edge of the bed with her legs crossed, she said,
âFirst, we need to figure out how many players are involved.â
That was essential when caught up in a Hero Dungeon.
âFirst of all, all second-year competitors from Lumene should have entered this world.â
Eliza recalled the moments before entering the Heroâs World.
The waiting area where Lumene students had been gathered was definitely within the activation range.
âNot just usâother schools' second-year competitors who were waiting wouldâve been dragged in too.â
âHow do you know?â
âI checked just before.â
âIn that sudden chaos, you had time to check that?â
âYup.â
âHmmâŚâ Eliza narrowed her eyes.
âYouâre certainly good at improvising.â
âOh? Was that a compliment?â
âDid it sound like one?â
Carl chuckled.
âAnyway, letâs get some sleep while we can.â
Carl checked the time.
There was still a little time left to rest.
Nodding at those words, Eliza asked,
âWhere are you going to sleep?â
âObviously on the bed. This is the room of the guy I possessed.â
âDonât be stupid. The bedâs mine.â
âWant to sleep together?â
âThat kind of low-quality jokeâare you asking to die?â
As Eliza asked coldly, Carl grinned and lay on the floor.
Eliza looked down at him with a snort and lay on the bed, pulling the blanket over herself.
Turning her body sharply away from Carl, Eliza tried to sleep. Carl asked, âBy the way, Eliza. Howâs your training been lately?â
âYou ignored me until now, and youâre just asking that?â
Eliza snorted without turning around.
âEven without you, there havenât been any problems with training. Itâs going well. Iâve gotten used to that damned pain to some extent.â
âWerenât you already used to pain? Youâd sometimes laugh like a lunatic, remember?â
âI told you never to bring that up again, didnât I?â
Eliza turned around and glared at Carl with a scowl.
Carl laughed at the sight of her.
âSorry I couldnât be there for you. I got caught by senior Elena and kept getting my labor exploited. I really wanted to help, but it was impossible.â
Still lying down, Carl clasped his hands behind his head and crossed his legs.
Looking up at the ceiling, he murmured, âWell, even without me, youâll do just fine.â
âKnowing that, why did you overestimate yourself and try to help?â Eliza snapped.
âInstead of worrying about me, you shouldâve taken care of your own situation. Maybe then youâd have improved enough to avoid expulsion.â
âHmm. To be honest, that wouldnât have helped.â
âI suppose thatâs true.â
ââŚâŚYou agreed too fast.â
Carl gave a dry laugh and said, âI just wanted to help.â
âWhy?â
âBecause you werenât acting like yourself back then.â
âHuh?â
Elizaâs eyes widened slightly.
âEliza Hergin, the one I know, isnât someone who doubts her own potential.â Carl smiled gently.
âYou might seem arrogant and dismissive of others, but youâre actually responsible and take care of those around you.â
Eliza was the leader of the second-year Summoning Department.
And the entire department followed her loyally.
If she were simply haughty and dismissive, she wouldnât have earned such respect.
Since enrollment, sheâd led her peers with the goal of making the Summoning Department the top of the academy.
âWhen you hit a wall, youâll do whatever it takes to break through. Thatâs what suits you best. Thatâs why I wanted to help.â Eliza looked at Carl with blank eyes.
After a moment, she clenched her fists and said, âCarl Thomas.â
âYeah?â
âIâm sorry. For the harsh words back then.â
âOh, that? Donât worry about it. I didnât take it to heart. It was true, after all.â
âIt wasnât true.â Eliza tilted her head slightly.
âThereâs no one among us who doesnât think youâre amazing. Especially since youâve helped us so much. I said what I did just now⌠but without your help, I wouldnât have endured the training.â
Eliza looked into Carlâs eyes.
Carl, flustered, stared back.
âH-Hey, whatâs with you all of a sudden?â
âSo donât give up.â
âHuh?â
âYouâre still very useful.â
ââŚâŚâ
Carl scratched his cheek.
Then gave a small laugh.
âIâm not giving up. Iâll struggle as much as I can. Though I donât know if itâll work.â
âHmmm?â
âIf I get expelled, donât pretend you donât know me. Connections are everything once you're out of school.â
At that, Eliza chuckled.
âIf youâre that worried, should we be friends?â
âHuh?â
Carlâs jaw dropped.
âConsider it an honor. The heir to the Hergin family is acknowledging a lowly commoner like you as her equal.â
Carl scratched his head, then gave a big grin.
âWow. Iâm so honored I donât know what to do.â
âGood. As long as you know.â
Eliza giggled.
Carl looked at her with a curious expression.
âSpeaking casually feels weird somehow.â
âNow that itâs like this, make sure you get promoted to 3rd year.â
âI told you, itâs not something effort alone can fix.â
Eliza glanced sideways at him, then lifted her chin.
âFor someone who claims not to have given up, you have a shockingly low level of motivation.â
âWell, maybe Iâll get more motivated if thereâs some kind of extra reward.â
âYouâre pathetic.â
Eliza clicked her tongue.
Carl grinned shamelessly at her.
âIf youâre really grateful for my help with training, how about repaying the favor by granting me one wish if I make it to 3rd year? Who knowsâit might spark more motivation.â
At those words, Eliza sat up.
Thinking punishment was coming, Carl flinched in fear.
But the expected lashing didnât come.
âFine.â
âHuh?â
Carl looked up.
There was Eliza, sitting cross-legged with her elbow on her knee and chin in her hand, smiling.
âIâll grant your wishâwhatever it is. So show a little more drive.â
âReally?â
Carl looked stunned.
âPeople of the Hergin family donât go back on their word.â
âFor real? Really? Youâll do whatever I ask?â
Carl grabbed Elizaâs hand and asked.
âYou⌠What are you planning to make me do?â
Eliza narrowed her eyes suspiciously, but Carl jumped to his feet.
âAlright! Iâll get to 3rd year no matter what it takes!â
Eliza, staring at Carlâs enthusiasm in disbelief, looked down at the hand he had grabbed and let out a chuckle.
âWell, before that, we need to clear this Heroâs World.â
Carl, brimming with motivation, suddenly spoke seriously.
âYeah, youâre right. At least I know the most basic strategy for an incarnation-type world.â
âOf course.â
Carl grinned confidently.
âYou have to act like the person youâre possessed. Well, Eliza, you probably donât have enough clues to understand the person youâre possessing, but Iâve already got it all figured out.â
âOh? How?â Eliza looked intrigued.
âFrom the dorm managerâs reaction earlier, and the fact that your possessed character, Megan Shell, broke school rules to be here at night. And most importantlyââ
Carl opened a drawer and took out a small wooden box.
He had found it while rummaging through the desk earlier.
Clickâ
Inside were an array of luxurious womenâs hairpins.
âAll different womenâs styles. Based on collecting things like thisâŚâ
Carl clicked his tongue.
âThis guyâs a total womanizer.â
âYour deduction skills are impressive. So? Can you play the part?â
âNo reason I canât.â

âWow, heâs good.â
Eliza gave a frosty smile.
âHe flirts with any girl he sees, huh? Itâs his calling.â
Claric Jessian was the second prince of Jessian, the Magic Kingdom located in the center of the continent.
He was also the first-ever student council president of Lumeneâa man of overwhelming ability and background.
Combining that with his personality, he was a full-fledged Casanova spreading romantic scandals everywhere.
Carl did his best to act like Claric.
Which only made Elizaâs eyes grow colder.
â I might actually die when weâre alone later.â
He was just doing what had to be done!
Carl was about to cry whenâ
âI heard rumors, but this guyâs nothing but a rutting colt, isnât he?!â
A voice full of contempt rang out from afar.
An elf approached with arms boldly crossed.
As the confident elf strode closer, the female Lumene students surrounding Carl began to whisper.
âThatâs Seirenâs student council president.â
âIs this a provocation before the exchange match?â
Carl narrowed his eyes as he looked at Seira Tingel, the student council president of Seiren.
âSeira Tingel. The Comet Mage, Seirenâs younger sister.â
And she would later become the actual progenitor of the Tingel family, which bore no children at present.
âThis colt bastard! Youâve got one dumb face!â
Seira shouted with arms crossed, looking completely fed up, and the students murmured.
âDoesnât Seirenâs student council president seem kind of different?â
âRight? Her toneâs rough. I heard she was super elegant.â
âThis girl⌠donât tell meâŚâ
As Carl looked at Seira, finding something oddly familiar, it happened.
âRight, Azonia?â
âBeastkin books⌠theyâre surprisingly⌠in-in-interestingâŚâ
âNYAAAAH! I told you not to do that with that face!â
âEek?!â
Seira lunged at Azonia.
Azonia flinched, panicked by Seiraâs reddened, flailing face.
Seeing that, Eliza facepalmed as she understood the situation.
Carl muttered blankly.
âSeira is Aru. And Azonia is Eiran.â
