Chapter 557
Editor : Amethyst00
The next morning.
Returning to Lumene, Leo passed through the school gates and headed straight for the second-year classroom.
Normally, students who stayed out overnight without permission would face disciplinary action.
But members of the student council were exempt from that rule.
Since the council managed the entire academy, they could be called away to Lumeria City at a momentâs notice.
âBeing student council president really has its perks. Though Celia and Chloe are definitely going to nag me about it.â
Smirking to himself at the thought of the two straight-laced honor students, Leo recalled his schedule.
âFirst class today is Combat Theory, right?â
As he approached the lecture hall, noise could already be heard before the door even opened.
Clackâ!
The moment Leo stepped inside, the buzzing voices came to an abrupt halt.
Blinking in confusion, he looked around at the students.
âLeo!â
Tade and the rest of his first-year homeroom friends rushed over.
âWhatâs going on?â
âHey, is it true you stayed out overnight with Elena yesterday?!â
âYeah.â
âGasp! Wait, are you two dating?!â
âWhat happened? Come on, you gotta tell us!â
âThere were rumors about you two being close for a while. Are they true?â
Leo let out a dry chuckle at their barrage of questions.
âWhat happened? We just had dinner and stayed the night, thatâs it.
âS-Stayed the night?!â
âWhere? Where did you stay?!â
âYou can tell us, right?â
The boys swallowed hard, holding their breath, eyes sparkling with desperate curiosity.
Just as Leo let out another chuckle at their intensityâ
âClass rep. Just be honest. How far did things go with Elena?â
âUgh!â
âW-When did you get here?!â
âAnd how can you just ask that straight-up?!â
The boys jumped at the sudden voice. They turned to see Eliana standing there, eyes narrowed in amusement.
âYou guys are unbelievable.â
âHey, I donât want to be called that by you!â Tade protested.
Eliana gave him a disappointed look.
âDo you seriously think the other students donât notice the pervy looks youâre all giving while whispering in a corner?â
The boys flinched awkwardly.
âSo if youâre that curious, just ask directly!â Classic Elianaâwhen in doubt, charge head-on.
âSo? How far did you get?â
âOf course Iâm curious. Other peopleâs love lives are the most fun thing in the world to hear about.âHer eyes sparkled.
âSo? Are you two really a thing?â
âAnd if we are?â
âHmm. Thatâd be a little disappointing, but I get it. Youâre pretty cool, class rep. Girls are bound to fall for you.â
Eliana nodded to herself in approval.
Leo chuckled at her words.
âI was just invited by the Zeron family.â
âAha!" Eliana gave a satisfied nod.
The other students also deflated in disappointment.
âAll that wild speculation for nothing.â
âWho started those dumb rumors anyway?!â
As the fuss died down, Leo made his way over to where Carl was seated.
Chloe, sitting beside Carl with a magic textbook open, spoke first. âNext time, try not to act in ways that could be misunderstood, Leo.â
âOh? Misunderstood how?â Carl grinned slyly.
âChloe, did you actually think Leo spent a steamy night with Elena? Wow, someoneâs got an active imaginationââ
Craaaaackâ!
âJoking! It was a joke! I swear!â
A deadly chill swept from Chloeâs hand, the surrounding temperature plummeting as thin frost coated nearby desks.
Face bright red with flustered fury, Chloe stormed off as Carl collapsed over his desk, groaning.
âUughâ I nearly died just now.â
âThatâs what you get for teasing her.â
âBut itâs fun. Whew.â
He straightened up and turned to Leo.
âI picked out candidates for the student council members, just like you asked.â
âAlready? That was fast.â
âHmph. You know Iâm good at this sort of thing.â
Carl puffed out his chest proudly and pulled a small notebook from his jacket.
âFor the administrative committee, I picked these three.â
He flipped it open to show: Chloe, Abad, and Duran.
âAbad and Duran are heirs to noble families, so theyâll handle operations with precision. And Chloe already proved herself back in first year when she was class rep.â
Back then, Class 1âCelia and Duranâs classâwas infamous for being the most difficult to manage.
Not only were Celia and Duran constantly at each otherâs throats, but they both had strong pride and an intense desire to lead.
Even now, in the second year of Knight Department, there were still distinct factions: those who followed Celia, and those who sided with Duran.
Of course, it wasnât an open rivalry, but the tension remained.
âChen Xiaâs been doing a good job keeping things smooth between them.â
Despite all that, Chloe flawlessly managed the class. She had the respect of both Celia, her best friend, and Duranâa rare feat.
âAnd for the disciplinary committee: Celia, Chelsea, and Walden.â
Celia was, without a doubt, the most well-behaved student in the second year.
âAnd Chelseaâs got a sixth sense for sniffing out trouble. She's born for the job.â Carl snickered playfully.
âAs for Waldenâheâs always been aloof and solitary, yeah, but as a student, heâs flawless. Not once has he ever been reprimanded by any professor.â
Just like Carl said, if you excluded his lack of socializing, Walden was every bit Celiaâs equal in terms of school conduct.
Several other names were on the list as well.
Given the vast administrative demands of Lumene, a few more would be added in the days ahead.
âAll these people are interested in joining the council?â Leo asked curiously.
Carl nodded.
âYeah. I casually brought it up, and they all showed interest. Well⌠except the top-ranked students. Some of them feel like they donât need to be involved, or donât want to work under you.â
Carl grinned slyly. âBut if you ask, Iâm sure theyâll say yes.â
âOh yeah? Then could you gather them after classes today?â
Carl flashed a thumbs-up. âNo problem! Iâll tell them to meet at Abundanceâs Afternoon.â
It was one of the most popular restaurants in Lumene.
âAbundanceâs Afternoon? That wonât be cheap.â
âWell, it is the unofficial founding meeting for our new student council. Gotta do it in style!â
âYou have a point.â
âWhich reminds me, Leoââ As Carl spoke in a sly tone, Leo smirked and pulled a black card from his coat.
âOho! The student council presidentâs card, capable of hiring even a full magical mercenary battalion!â
Carl took the card with reverence.
âLeave it to me. Iâll hand out invitations during lunch. Actually, I already have them ready.â

That evening.
When Leo arrived at Abundanceâs Afternoon, the restaurantâs manager bowed deeply.
âWelcome, Lord Leo. Weâve been expecting you. Please, this way to the annex.â
The manager led him to a private building Carl had reserved.
As Leo entered, Carlâalready waitingâraised a brow at the two people following behind Leo: Chen Xia and Eiran.
âXia, sure. But⌠whyâs she here?â
âAm I not allowed to come?â
Eiranâs ears drooped sadly, and Carl quickly waved his hands.
âNo, no! I didnât mean it like that. Since youâre here, might as well enjoy yourself!â
âOkay!â Beaming, Eiran took a seat next to Chen Xia.
Leo sat down, and before long, the students Carl had invited began arriving one by one.
âCarl, you ordered this too?â
âNo, I didnât.â
âYou have to! This is the best thing on the menu!â
Eliana pointed at the menu with conviction.
Carl blinked.
âWow, you actually came?â
âI came because Leo Plov said he had something to say. Thatâs all.â
Duran answered coldly, narrowing his eyes as Celia stared at him skeptically.
âLord Walden, could you please pass me that?â
ââŚâŚâ
Without a word, Walden handed over the dish Eiran pointed to.
The dinner progressed in a relaxed, lively atmosphere.
Seeing the right moment, Carl cleared his throat loudly.
âAhem. Now then, Iâd like to explain why we allââ
Bangâ!
The door slammed open, and Eliza stormed in, face dark with annoyance.
âEliza?â Carl looked stunned.
Eliza walked straight up to Leo and crossed her arms.
âLeo Plov. Why wasnât I invited?â
âHuh? Wait, you werenât invited?" Eliana blinked, tilting her head.
âWas Eliza⌠being excluded?â
At her thoughtless comment, Elizaâs eyes flashed coldly.
Without a sound, Chen Xia approached Eliana from behind and snapped her neck.
âFiguratively, of course.
âPlease continue, Miss Eliza,â Chen Xia said sweetly, dragging the limp Eliana away.
Leo gave an awkward smile as Eliza stared him down.
âCarl was the one who sent the invitations.â
Eliza turned her glare on Carl.
âWell, youâve never shown the slightest interest in the student council!â
Carl scratched his cheek sheepishly.
âI figured youâd refuse anywayâŚâ
âYou still should have invited me! What if I had changed my mind!â
âYou probably just didnât seem helpful enough to bother inviting.â Duran smirked, tossing oil on the fire.
Elizaâs gaze turned icyâfar colder than when Eliana spoke.
âDuran.â
âWhat?â
âShall I snap your neck too?â Chen Xia asked with a sunny smile.
Duran clicked his tongue and turned away, silenced.
The other students silently applauded Chen Xiaâs effortless takedown.
âSo?â she asked with a smile. âAre you interested in student council work, Miss Eliza?â
Eliza scoffed.
âI could do it better than anyone here.â
âI quite agree. Then youâre joining?â
âObviously.â
âWaaah~! Elizaâs joining the council! Thatâs amazing! Please sign here.â
Chen Xia cheerfully handed over a membership form.
Eliza began signingâthen paused. âWait. Am I being scammââ
âWelcome to the student council, Miss Eliza.â
Before Eliza could finish, Chen Xia snatched the form and returned to her seat.
Eliza stood frozen, mouth agape.
âWell, Eliza kind of stumbled her way inâŚâ
âThen let me stumble back out! Cancel it!â Eliza shouted, flustered.
Leo looked to Chen Xia, who responded firmly.
âNo can do. You're in. Please return to your seat.â
Defeated, Eliza slumped into her chair, covering her face.
Watching her, Leo spoke. âThe student council will be busier than ever. Thatâs why I need everyoneâs help.â
âIâll do my best!â Eiran declared, clenching her fists. âI may not be much, but Iâll help you with everything I have, Leo!â
Her enthusiasm radiated confidence, ears flapping.
The others, however, exchanged silent glances.
âYou do realize this is Lumeneâs student council, right?â
âYou're a transfer student. Please get a grip.â
Just thenâ
âEiran.â
âYes, Xia?â
âYouâre a student of Seiren.â
âAhâŚâ
Eiran lowered her head. Even her ears drooped in sorrow.
âStill, weâll need everyoneâs strength.â
At Leoâs words, Abad responded. âWell, if youâre asking this seriously, I canât exactly say no. You in, Duran?â
âHmph.â Duran scoffed, but didnât object.
And so, every invited student declared their intention to join the student council.
Seeing that, Carl grinned. âSee? Told you itâd work out.â
âYeah.â Leo chuckled and turned to him. âCarl, Iâll be counting on you too.â
âFor what?â
âTo join the council, obviously.â
ââŚâŚâ
Carlâs face froze.
âMe?â
âYup.â
âIn the council?â
âExactly.â
ââŚâŚâ
âAnd Iâm making you acting president when Iâm away.â
âWHY?! Why would you give me such a monstrous position?!â Carl clutched his head and screamed.
Leo shrugged.
âI was going to give you something else, but seeing how you handled everything today, I figured youâre more than capable.â
âGaaaah!!â
Carl let out a pained wail.
From the side, Chelsea quietly asked Abad, âBrother, doesnât acting president usually not have much to do?â
âMaybe if someone else were president. But this is Leo. And Elenaâs the vice president.â
Which meant Carl, as acting president, would become Elenaâs personal assistant.
A terrifying thought.
âIf anything, he got cursed for being too competent. I mean, he didnât even suspect he might get roped in himself.â
Chelsea clicked her tongue.
âHeâs being crushed under a disaster he summoned on his own.â
